Mothers Against Noise Podcast & Interview Series Launched: #1 - wAgAwAgA

Things may have been quiet on the Mothers front since our Audiovisual night in March (where Stormfield, Sam's Myth and Idiron Soundtrack ripped it up), but that doesn't mean we haven't been busy. Our series of nights is on hold for now - while we hunt down the perfect venue - but in the meantime we've been beavering away on the first in a new podcast & interview series which is finally ready for your enjoyment. Each month we'll be focussing on a single artist, inviting them to provide a mix and, where possible, have an in-depth chat with our very own Second Line. The results will then be available from the MAN site, with the interview up for readin' and the mix nuzzled up with a resident's mix and a sprinkling of MAN dubs as a downloadable podcast.

This month's featured artist is wAgAwAgA, an itinerant bass-maverick with releases on Imminent and Acroplane. His productions range from tongue-in-cheek Breakcore to deep, World Music-inspired ambience, taking in a healthy dose of juddering 2-step on the way; if it’s virtuosic breaks-processing and earth-quaking bass you’re after, wAgA’s your man. He's provided something a little different for our podcast - a pulsating digi-dub affair featuring Bjork and Radiohead dubversions and bucketloads of sub - and met up with Second Line to go in-depth on big band jazz and the Armoured Core.

You can download the podcast, featuring mixes from wAgAwAgA and MAN resident Tufrs, and a selection of MAN dubs, here.

You can read the in-depth interview with wAgAwAgA here.

Hurtdeer - Ghost Bogun - 4-track digital EP available now from Life After Math

This four-track release by Hurtdeer is now available through the fledgling netlabel Life After Math.

Following on from his 7-track EP 'Junta', available for free from the highly respected Acroplane netlabel (Acroplane.org), Ghost Bogun is a collection of Hurtdeer's darker, more introspective creations. Across the EP's four tracks, beautifully conceived atmospherics and fragile chord shapes float over a combination of 2-step and breaks-oriented beats, drawing the listener into a dark, delicate and profoundly odd place. Highly recommended late night bedroom listening.

The release can be downloaded here for the paltry sum of $5.

Tracklisting:

1. Rat King
2. Sadsack
3. Ilium
4. Aokigahara

Following on from the two-track 'My Revolution/Whoopah' release on the Twenty/Twelve netlabel earlier this year, 'Urban Nature' (released on the brand spanking new Schwa! Records) sees Macka broaden and deepen his sound, taking in off-kilter wobble, rolling 2-step beats, field recordings and the odd Shakespeare quote to create 8 propulsive, colourful dubs. This is not your average Dubstep!

Macka - My Revolution/Whoopah - FREE release available now from Twenty/Twelve Recordings

This two-track release by Macka is now available through Twenty/Twelve records. This, his first release on the netlabel (nominated for 'Best New Label' in this year's Dubstepforum awards), features two Macka stalwarts. First up is 'My Revolution', a heavy-footed 2-step anthem with impossibly agile vocals and hints of a Garage shuffle. On the digi-flipside is 'Whoopah', a brooding explosion of massive snares and even bigger bass. Dancefloors beware!

Tracklisting:
1. My Revolution
2. Whoopah

Upcoming Releases by MAN Members

Acroplane Props are due to two of our members for upcoming releases: Duskky has been shortlisted for the Grassroots Dubstep Competition over at Carbon Logic, securing his track, 'Tippy', a digital release through the site. The competition set out to find the most 'original, outstanding and progressive' Dubstep around, and Tippy's sub-led Drumfunk is certainly that! The tune will be part of a 14-track LP to be released in Feb 2010.

And it's early days yet, but news is coming in that Hurtdeer has bagged a free release on the Acroplane netlabel in early 2010. The Belfast-based label, which has supported some of our favourite artists in the last few years - including Barry Lynn, wAgAwAgA and the Amen-Tal Sound System - are keen to put out a selection of Hurtdeer's Dubstep mindfucks. And who are we to complain?
